''I am still happily breastfeeding''
Çiğdem - Mert Arin's mom - Australia > Ankara, Turkey

"Hi , my name is Cigdem Alev Vertop and I’m a mum to a 6 month old handsome baby boy.

I’ve been a lucky mum, apart from the support I receive from my family, I’ve had the most wonderful chance of also being supported by Melody before and after giving birth. She’s helped me on so many things but most importantly she helped me understand that breastfeeding is really the most satisfying thing a mum can give her baby, if it were not for all my long and sometimes late night talks with Melody I think I would certainly be unsure if I was doing it right or not.

She’s there for you 24/7 and will even patiently answer stupid and panic ridden questions (every mum has that once in a while)

Her support for these last months has been invaluable, I am still happily breastfeeding and due to her extensive knowledge, I have a greater idea on what I am supposed to do and what I should expect in this mum and son journey.

If you want a counsellor who actually does care about you and your baby, who actually believes in what they do, who is actually dependable and will be there when you want to talk or ask something, well then you’re in the right hands…"

''I highly recommend any new mother to meet with Melody as soon as possible to get help with breastfeeding.''

Emily - Lale's mom - U.S.A > Istanbul, Turkey

"I connected with Melody about two months after my daughter was born. I was breastfeeding successfully, in that my daughter was healthy and gaining weight, but it was not coming naturally to me and I constantly worried that I was doing something wrong or that my supply would go down unexpectedly. I was considering switching to formula, because of the stress that I felt. Melody instantly put my fears to rest and gave me the confidence to continue. My baby is 6 months old now and we are still breastfeeding. Melody had helped me all along the way. Her experience as a mother and caring nature have made her a great source of comfort for me. I highly recommend any new mother to meet with Melody as soon as possible to get help with breastfeeding. I never realized before giving birth that breastfeeding would be something that I would have to work to learn, but I am definitely lucky to have found such a wonderful teacher!"

''I wanted to have the best preparation possible to succeed at breastfeeding.''

Gizem - Flora's mom - Ankara, Turkey

"I met Melody during my pregnancy as I wanted to have the best preparation possible to succeed at breastfeeding. Even though I have now moved from Istanbul to Ankara, she has been a great support for me through phone calls and skype sessions. She is very passionate about her job and makes you feel very confident. I believe it is important to know things beforehand in order to prevent any bad experience (and even if U have, there are always solutions).
I would definitely recommend her if you are pregnant or breastfeeding!"

''Melody told me everything I needed to know about breastfeeding twins, maybe premature, after breast reduction surgery.''

Kayra - mom of twins Mika and Lena - Istanbul, Turkey

"I was 26 weeks pregnant with twins when I contacted Melody. I really wanted to be able to breastfeed them. I struggled to breastfeed my first child, pumped till he was 4 months but mostly gave formula. I eventually gave up. This time I really wanted to succeed, but felt that I would probably need help both because I was expecting twins and also because in the past I had breast reduction surgery (which was why I thought I had problems to breastfeed my son).

Melody told me everything I needed to know about breastfeeding twins, maybe premature, after breast reduction surgery.
I gave birth to Mika and Lena at 37 weeks and called Melody for a home visit soon after the birth.

I want to thank her so much for giving me her time and wisdom during this time. I truly appreciate her support and have felt much more comforted and confident this time round. Mika and Lena are now 3 months old and even though I am supplementing, breastfeeding is still full on!
Thank you Melody and God bless!"

''Now I am a happy breastfeeding mum.''

Petra - Luca's mom - Austria > Istanbul, Turkey

"My name is Petra. I am from Vienna, Austria.

I gave birth to my first son Luca in April in Istanbul. I had a natural birth and liked the idea of breastfeeding from the start. Like every fresh mother I didn’t have any experience with breastfeeding. Not only didn’t I fully understand the Turkish language of the nurses & doctors, but we were also released from the hospital a few hours after giving birth.

Neither me nor my son did know how to breastfeed, so we felt a bit helpless at first. So we asked our English speaking friends for a breastfeeding consultant and that’s how we found Melody. She came to our house as soon as she could. After reading a lot of different information on breastfeeding in the internet I was almost ready to give up, not being aware about its precious value.

Melody gave us a lot of theoretic and practical information that changed my mind. She encouraged me to be patient and that every mother fits for their child. I remember she told me: “With children you will always find a lot of different opinions. The best thing you can do is find a reliable source, stick to it and throw away all the other stuff.” In case of breastfeeding for me this reliable source was her. Also after the consulting I could contact her and with other matters and I got immediate and detailed answers.

Now I am a happy breastfeeding mum and everything is so routine and lovely. I know and enjoy that I can provide my baby with the best food everywhere, every time and almost immediately. I can only recommend to every mother to not give up on breastfeeding, even if the beginning is hard and confusing, or doctors recommend to give additional milk. It is really a wonder of nature we can be part of."

"I confirm too! Melody was very helpful at the beginning when I was
trying to breastfeed, facing many different problems and wanted to give up...and at the end I'm still breastfeeding 1 year later!"

Sophie - Mina's mom - Istanbul, Turkey

''She was extremely patient and full of all the answers I was looking for!''

Jen - Stefano's mom - U.S.A > Istanbul, Turkey

"I received a referral to Melody from my doula, who promised I would be in good hands. Melody came to my home about a week after the birth of my first baby to assist me with breastfeeding and help answer some of my questions.

She was extremely patient and full of all the answers I was looking for!

Right away Melody was able to identify some problems I was having with how I was holding my baby, and provide some simple fixes that made all the difference.

Melody was very encouraging, and I was extremely grateful to be able to find such a lovely resource in Istanbul. In addition, I contacted her multiple times after our consultation with questions, to which she responded quickly with helpful answers.

Learning to breastfeed properly can be challenging at first; I highly recommend Melody's services to any new mother who needs some extra assistance."

''I recommend every pregnant woman and new mother to have consultancy on breastfeeding because there are really lots of things we don't know and Melody will show the way."

Işıl - Levin's mom - Istanbul, Turkey

"My name is Işıl, mother of 3 months old Levin... My son was in such a hurry to meet the world that he knocked the door on the 35th week of my pregnancy. As he didn't have much time to learn the sucking reflexe in the womb, he wasn't capable of breastfeeding straight away. I bottle fed him and had to teach him to be breastfed much later, on our 41st week.
And that's when I met Melody, a lovely lady who taught both of us the secrets and the tips of breastfeeding. As I wanted my son to keep growing up, I wouldn't want to stop bottlefeeding entirely but Melody, with her positive energy, encouraged and convinced me that I had all the power in myself to feed my son. Thanks to her, now I don't look back and worry about the healthy growth of my dear son.

I recommend every pregnant woman and new mother to have consultancy on breastfeeding because there are really lots of things we don't know and Melody will show the way."

''I really appreciated her gentle approach to breastfeeding. The confidence that she gave me put my mind at ease.''

Andrea - Ayse Jane's mom - U.S.A > Istanbul, Turkey

"My baby, Ayse Jane, is almost two months old now. When she was first born, my doctor told me that the first few weeks of breastfeeding would be challenging, but I really didn't anticipate the frustration and the pain that I would have when I tried to feed her. After reading about breastfeeding in popular books and watching numerous youtube videos, I just needed someone to come to my house and show me what I needed to do.

Luckily, Melody was available. Her session was very informative and I really appreciated her gentle approach to breastfeeding. She looked at Ayse Jane and explained that she had a good latch, which was basically all I needed to hear. The confirmation and the confidence that she gave me put my mind at ease. I was able to stop evaluating myself and just relax. It made a huge difference.

I also appreciated that she offered to deliver her information in Turkish for my mother in law. Although it wasn't necessary, it was a thoughtful gesture. I'm very thankful that I have her as a resource here in Istanbul."

''I recommend Melody as your breastfeeding consultant without reservation and in the strongest possible terms!"

Assel - Rauan's mom - Kazakhstan > Istanbul, Turkey

"My name is Assel, I am from Kazakhstan and I am a happy mom of a baby boy Rauan (now 9 months old).

After giving birth I was determined to breastfeed my baby at least until he is 1.5 or 2 years old. So I didn’t expect that all of a sudden I just wouldn’t have enough milk starting from the second month. I thought it was a temporary lactation crisis but this had dragged on for one, two months… I have tried everything to stimulate milk flow (feeding as often as possible, herbal teas, tablets, pumping, special exercises, etc.) but it was not getting any better. Apart from that I couldn’t teach my baby correct latching and feeding was often painful. I was almost desperate and was thinking of supplementary feeding my baby with a formula.

That is why it was a big luck to have such a knowledgeable, understanding, and considerate person as Melody as my breastfeeding counsellor. She patiently answered all sorts of questions and concerns I had and made it all clear in my head. She managed to reassure me that my son was actually getting enough milk for his growth and development, that I was doing things correctly, and that there can be nothing better for a baby than breastmilk.

She helped me finally fix the latching and has been offering support and advice long after our session.

Melody is a real professional who is truly passionate about helping moms to have enjoyable breastfeeding experience. I recommend Melody as your breastfeeding consultant without reservation and in the strongest possible terms!"

''Had I listened to the doctors, I would have stopped nursing after 2 months. A heartfelt THANK YOU Melody! And to all moms out there: Don't despair, it's easier than you think if you have the right person by your side."

Bettina - Can's mom - Germany > Istanbul, Turkey

"I initially reached out to Melody because I needed help with my non-sleeping baby, AND because I was scared and insecure of breastfeeding as such. This being my first baby, I had NO idea what journey I had embarked on.

Now, 6 months later, Melody is the only reason I was able to breastfeed my son for 6+ months. It was a very rocky path for me with loads of hurdles such as doctors telling me I had low milk supply because of son's slow weight gain, the aforementioned sleeping issues, a baby that pulls off the breast (this must be the most annoying thing in the world), a baby with slightly poor latch on, a constipated baby after trying formula, and on goes the list.

Had I listened to the doctors, I would have stopped nursing after 2 months. Doctors simply don't seem to care much and are quick to put babies on formula. And with every time I came back from the doc with negative news, Melody had to put me back on track (I was a high maintenance client testing her patience...).

The low weight gain turned out to not be so low at all, the low milk supply was actually more a mind matter (my mind going wonky), the constipation could have been avoided had I consulted Melody earlier, and the latch on never really gets corrected, but Melody taught me how to latch him, so to overcome the fact that my baby didn't open up his mouth wide enough.

I could go on for ever, but I'll just sum it up like this: What made it easy for me to follow Melody's guidance was that - apart from being extremely knowledgeable and a true expert in her field, she is incessantly positive, and intuitively found the right words to keep me going.

With right words I mean a combination of using knowledge and logic responsibly and the soothing wisdom of someone with a through and through optimistic attitude and dedication beyond belief: she actually showed up to our meeting with a home made belgian bread that she baked in the morning (and she APOLOGIZED for being 15 minutes late!!!;)) that I'm now convinced increases milk supply.

This paired with an almost obsessive drive to research the daylight out of things to find the solution was the key to a happy (breastfed) end, a happy mom and a happy baby.

A heartfelt THANK YOU Melody! And to all moms out there: Don't despair, it's easier than you think if you have the right person by your side."

''I want to thank her so much, from the bottom of my heart, because despite the difficulties, I eventually breastfed for 5 months.''

Nathalie - Louis' mom - Brussels, Belgium

"My baby boy Louis was born with a congenital torticollis and an agenesia of the bottom lip. This made the first days and weeks quite difficult as my baby was in pain when handled. Breastfeeding seemed to be painful too and because of his bottom lip issue, he couldn't take the breast without a nipple shield.I was determined to breastfeed so I called a midwife that came to help me at home for a month. Breastfeeding was still difficult though... Louis was often crying during and after nursing, wasn't sleeping a lot and not well and because of that, I was often thinking of switching to the bottle.

One evening, I started to talk to Melody, who was then still training to become a breastfeeding counsellor. She managed to answer all my questions in a very accurate way and put my anxiety to rest. Thanks to her help, I found a certain serenity and decided to continue breastfeeding to give my baby nature's best.

We talked many times after that, Melody was always available and very helpful. She was a living breastfeeding encyclopedia, despite the fact she was still training!

I want to thank her so much, from the bottom of my heart, because despite the difficulties, I eventually breastfed for 5 months. This led to an amazingly strong bond with Louis, I can't describe it, I believe you have to live it to understand the feeling. It's symbiosis, harmony... Thank you so much Melo, without your help, I wouldn't have experienced this proximity that built this strong bond."

'After that day, I never experienced any problem anymore and understood the moms who were seeing breastfeeding as a beautiful experience.''

Didem - Arda Atlas's mom - Istanbul, Turkey

My son was 2 weeks old when I met Melody. At that point, breastfeeding wasn't a pleasure at all as it was extremely painful. It was so painful that I couldn't even cuddle my baby. I had been breastfeeding and crying at the same time for two weeks. I coundn't understand why all books were saying that breastfeeding was amazing and natural. I didn't find it nice at all and it wasn't coming naturally to me neither. This struggle had really started to affect my psychology. I decided to stop the suffering: I would either stop breastfeeding or find a solution to feed my baby with my own breastmilk.

I started researching what I should do to stop the pain. That's where I actually discovered that my baby was possibly not latched on correctly but that it was possible to learn how to do it (how sad, at the hospital, the nurse told me in a few sentences how to get my baby to latch and then left). That's how my husband got in contact with Melody.

Melody came to our house as quick as she could. In addition to the fact that she does her job very well, that she is truly specialized in her field, and does a lot of research, she is extremely smiley and, psychologically, has a very comforting approach. She told my husband and me how breastfeeding was actually working, how it could benefit our baby, that regarding the circumstances, the way I was feeling was totally normal and that I shouldn't feel guilty about it.

After a while, we tried to put the baby on the breast. Melody pointed out the good and the bad and really, the following attempts magically changed the whole experience! Yes it was still painful because my nipples were damaged but the pain was much less then before and I remember how, after such a long time, I finally managed to breathe in and out comfortably.

After that day, I never experienced any problem anymore and understood the moms who were seeing breastfeeding as a beautiful experience :) My son Arda Atlas is now nearly 13 months old and breastfeeding is still going on.

Whenever I had any question, any doubt, Melody was always reachable and there to answer me whole-heartedly. I never ever heard nor felt that I should pay for a new counselling to get my question answered and I think this shows how much Melody loves her job and doesn't see you just as a 'client'.

I really recommend any mom-to-be to work with Melody before the birth in order to live their first breastfeeding experience without stress and tears.''

Kind regards,
Didem Günsel Sayar

''I attended one of her workshops before my baby was born — before that I had no idea that there was so much to learn about breastfeeding!''

E.R - Ireland > Istanbul, Turkey

"I totally recommend getting help from Melody! I attended one of her workshops before my baby was born — before that I had no idea that there was so much to learn about breastfeeding! It was hugely reassuring to be able to get started armed with all the info and techniques, as well as knowing what was normal, and when to seek help. It was also great to have met Melody in advance so that I knew who to call on when I needed help after the baby arrived."

''I was in the breastfeeding room, feeding my baby with a bottle and telling him I was sorry I had left him hungry when Melody entered the room with her child...''

Berna - Atahan's mom - Istanbul, Turkey

" I met Melody at the hospital where I gave birth. In the first two weeks of his life, my baby wasn't producing enough urine and was losing weight every day. The doctor told us to supplement, that's how we started formula early. That was our first mistake. My nipples were cracked and breastfeeding was incredible painful. When I was pregnant, I had a very different idea of what breastfeeding was going to look like. For us, it had turned into a nightmare.

I was in the breastfeeding room, feeding my baby with a bottle and telling him I was sorry I had left him hungry when Melody entered the room with her child.
She started talking to me. She told me that I had probably enough milk because as a woman, I was designed to breastfeed.
I took her contact details but didn't call her straight away because I didn't believe I would succeed anyway.

By the time my son was 4,5 weeks old, I noticed that we had been increasing the amount of formula every day.  We could not continue this way. I thought there must be a solution: at the end of the day, I was healthy, capable of breastfeeding like any mom. That's when I eventually contacted Melody.

From that day onwards, everything changed. Did it become easy? Surely not.  Whenever I was ready to give up, Melody was there to guide me with knowledge and patience. One example: when my son was 4 months old, I felt too sick to breastfeed and my milk supply went down.  We had returned to the same point.

I straight away thought of Melody and called her for help. I applied everything she told me. We were in contact every day. Thanks to her support, my milk came back and the more I breastfed, the more milk I was making. That week was one of the most tiring in my life but it was worth it! In only one week we managed to wean off formula.

Result: my son is now 7 months old and, thankfully, he is still breastfeeding. Thank God you were here Melody! I thank God and you every single time I nurse Atahan."

''I couldn't have done it without Melody's constant support and encyclopedic knowledge. She is infectiously positive and deeply passionate about breastfeeding and educating mothers.''

Trudy - Mila's mom - U.K > Istanbul, Turkey

"I'm a mum of two amazing girls. My eldest daughter Ela is 8 years old and breastfeeding had been a terrible experience for us.

When I fell pregnant I read up about pregnancy and birth etc, books full of  misty pictures of breastfeeding women. I though it was a given and I too would have a beautiful soul nourishing experience nursing and my own beautiful "brelfies" photos. I was wrong, very wrong.

Looking back my problems started with a bad latch at the hospital by a nurse. The following weeks were challenging to say the least. Ela would vomit blood after feeds, I was told by my doctor as long as she is getting a little milk with the blood it's ok. There were multiple trips to hospital to have blockages removed with an electric pump.

I tried numbing jels, nipple shields, hot water, cold water, round the clock paracetamol, vitamin e oil, cabbage leaves, breast shells, lanolin, pumping, nipple extractors, soaking my nipples in baking soda (God knows why, apparently it helps??!!) I called a lactation consultant in the UK, it helped a little but I needed someone hands on.

I was basically told to suck it up and get on with it, it's supposed to hurt. I pumped for a month or so, but feeling crush, depressed and like a terrible mother I switched to formula.

I'd look at my friends breastfeeding their babies in cafes chatting happily and feel so disappointed I couldn't do it. Pictures of contented women breastfeeding felt like a lie.

Second time round I was determined to breastfeed. I joined Melody's course a few weeks before my due date, it  boosted my confidence so much, it wasn't my fault, I tried my best but I relied too heavily on the opinions of doctors, nurses and well meaning family.

After Mila was born I called Melody for a home visit. She showed me the best positions, the correct latch, helped inform surrounding family, she was incredibly respectful and well informed, gently giving advice about the days and weeks to come. Having her hands on was priceless, you can watch every video, read every book but when u have a squirming newborn in your arms it's completely different.

Over the next few weeks we were in constant contact, she was available late into the night, always gave speedy replies along with relevant articles attached. I developed mastitis again, as she predicted, but it was manageable with her advice and support. My nipples blistered and split, she took me step by step through healing them.

Mila is now 7 months old and thriving!    I love nursing her, it's a joy like no other. I finally understand the contented look on a nursing mothers face. I can nurse and carry on a conversation too which seemed impossible before.

I couldn't have done it without Melody's constant support and encyclopedic knowledge. She is infectiously positive and deeply passionate about breastfeeding and educating mothers. I am so grateful to her, she gave me the confidence to challenge doctors advice and opened my eyes to failing in healthcare.

I can never thank her enough and I'm proud to call her my friend."

''José was in intensive care and I couldn't breastfeed him at all. The first thing I did was calling Melody.  She immediately sent me a lot of excellent information about breastfeeding a premature baby and supported me. Everything worked out.''

Laura -José's mom - Colombia > Istanbul, Turkey

"My name is Laura Mejía, I am from Colombia and I am the blessed mother of a 12 weeks old little dude named José.

After searching for all the most natural ways to bring my baby boy to earth, I got into a great network of people who care about these topics the same way as I do. Melody hosted a breastfeeding workshop in the same place I was doing my hypnobirthing course and so I joined it. The course taught me a lot, I could see that Melody really knows what she is talking about. She is also a very nice woman and mother and she breastfed her baby for more than 2 years, that says it all right?

My baby ended up coming to this world premature and not quite the way I had prepared myself to… For the first couple of days at hospital, José was in intensive care and I couldn't breastfeed him at all. Breastfeeding was a huge pressure for me and all the other mothers of premature babies in the NICU room, as we had to wait for our baby to be able to breastfeed before we could leave the hospital.

''She has given me tips and support that have made me a very confident and proud breastfeeding mother.''

Sophie - Basile's mom - Belgium > San Diego, USA

"Melody taught me the importance of breastfeeding from the day I told her I was pregnant. She has given me tips and support that have made me a very confident and proud breastfeeding mother (of a 14 months old). Her knowledge and passion really had a positive impact on my own experience. She was (and still is) always there to help me almost instantly if I have any concerns or just feel like sharing some thoughts, and that even though I live in California. Thanks Melody, you inspire me!"
